A new year is an opportunity for a fresh start. We are motivated by this sense of a new beginning, a clean slate, and we set new goals for ourselves. Although these New Year’s resolutions often remain unaccomplished, that doesn’t stop us from being hopeful that this year will be different. I want to take advantage of the motivation the new year brings and actually make 2017 different. My goals for the new year are to appreciate, travel, and capture.
To appreciate means to recognize the quality, significance, or magnitude of something. To be thankful. I want to make sure I appreciate 2017. Too often we find ourselves letting the days pass us without doing the things we want. We say we’ll do it tomorrow, but tomorrow comes and nothing gets done. This year I want to make it a goal to live every day to it’s full potential and appreciate all it has to offer. The opportunity to learn, create, and teach is provided to us daily. I want to take advantage of that and make everyday count!
Traveling helps us break out of our routine and appreciate the present moment for what it is. It gives us the time to think, reflect, and wonder. I love to travel because it’s good for the soul, refreshes the mind, and broadens your perspective. I can’t wait for my first trip of 2017.
I want to make sure I create content and not just consume it. Often we turn down the opportunity to capture moments because of trivial circumstances. The lighting isn’t perfect, I only have my phone, or nothing here looks good, are some of the excuses I found myself making. I want to capture all the moments 2017 has in store. Sometimes we get caught up in the moment and before you know it times up, the party is over. The year passes by and you feel like you accomplished nothing, but then you look back the moments you captured and are reminded of the good times.
